Ethnic drink Honey Rooibos is prepared by brewing dry sprouts
of Rooibos bush that grows in South Africa. In the composition of Honey Rooibos natural sweet
flavour of Honey Rooibos is underlined with honey notes. On the Cape of Good Hope in the valley of Cedarberg
Mountains grow fluffy red-yellow bushes with long red branches. The indigenous people – Bushmen -
who speak Afrikaans call these bushes “Rooibos” which means “red bush”. They compare this plant with
gigantic porcupine that lay down for a nap under the scorching African sun. Bushmen harvest the
needle-like leaves and brew them. The drink is famous for its healing properties and is often called
Elixir of Bushmen. We do not know the exact time when Rooibos leaves were first infused by
Bushmen but we do know the man who rediscovered this drink to the world. His name was Benjamin
Ginsberg and he came from Odessa. In the beginning of the 20th century as fate willed he came to
South Africa. This was the place where he took out his lucky ticket - in several years first ships
with Elixir of Bushmen sold by enterprising Ginsberg arrived in European ports. In the Old
World the useful properties of the red bush were not only duly appreciated but also linked to
scientifically proved facts. Today Roiboos plantations occupy the whole Cedarberg valley and more
than half of the crop is exported, mainly to Japan, Europe, Australia and USA. Scientific research
has proved that Roiboos is abundant in natural antioxidants, contains many vitamins and
microelements essential for human organism and is caffeine free. It has soothing effect and slows
down aging. And with a delicate honey note – like in Greenfield Honey Roiboos – the drink has an
especially pleasant flavour.
